FIRST THINGS FIRST.....
The one operative word above all else for doing Sidewalk Sunday School is preparation!
Preparation, preparation, preparation. The ultimate success of your program
will depend on the amount of basic preparation you have done.
The following are areas that need to be reviewed each time:
- Program Plan. Make sure you have
one. No matter how often you do the program you still forget. Have at least one
posted prominently so that everyone involved in the presentation can see it.
- Lesson Plan. Make sure it is written
down in a simple format and covers: what games you will play, what songs you will
sing, the theme for the lesson, the memory verse, the Bible story, the object lessons
& their application, the life story. Include on there which people will do what.
Make sure you have several copies posted prominently so that all may refer to
it.
- Necessary items. Make sure you
have everything you need for the games and the object lessons. Have your songs,
rules, the 4 things, memory verse etc. all written out on cards that can be read easily by
the crowd. Have everything lined up and available. There should be no
last second scrambling looking for things.
- Equipment (1). Make sure that all
of your equipment is available, even if you don't plan to use it - remember Murphy's Law
"if anything can go wrong, it will!" Are the batteries fully charged, do
you have spares? Are all cables properly connected and working? Do you have
your music?
- Equipment (2). Do
you have the right equipment in the first place? Is your output on your sound system
sufficient? Is your sound equipment powerful enough to handle the abuse?
Do you have sturdy microphones and long enough cables. At a
minimum you should have two microphones, with stands, and 30' cables. You should
have long cables for your speakers so they can be positioned suitably, not next to each
other.
- Power source.
What are you going to use for your power source? Mains, batteries or
generator? What will you do if you are unable to use your first choice - you
need to have a back up plan. Mains go off or are not available, generators
break down or run out of gas, batteries go flat - all at the most inopportune time.
Always have a plan B.
- Permits.
Do you need one? Have you got one? Keep it with you.
- Roles & Responsibilities. Make sure everyone knows their roles, what they are
responsible for and fully understand what the program is, and who is in charge!
You can never over prepare but can easily under prepare.
The following is a list of various items (far from complete of course) of things you
should carry:
- Paper towels, napkins, toilet paper.
