OBJECT
LESSONS ....
| The
concept of an object lesson is very simple; to visually
communicate a single thought or idea in such a way that
it is remembered. The object lesson becomes a memory
"anchor" for what you want the kids to remember.
Simple
or complicated, the object lesson is a tool to reinforce
the lesson. A few simple do's and don'ts can make all
the difference in the impact of an object lesson. |

- Don't
preach to the kids! The goal is to convey a single
thought at one time and to reinforce that idea with the object
lesson. Don't deliver a sermon!
- Use
plain language. Don't use King James English, "christianize"
or any form of religious language, but use everyday words,
simple words to get your point across.
- Introduce
the object first (not last) and then use it as the reference
point for your presentation.
- Stick
to the one thought/idea/concept only.
The way our program is constructed allows for other inter-twining
thoughts to be presented in their own right. Don't deliver
the entire program with one lesson.
- Use
everyday items to communicate everyday truths.
- Make
the object as big and visible as possible.
There
are three factors we often forget about when it comes to Object
Lessons:
- The
Weather
- Culture
- Yourself.

Developing
Object Lessons
| Object
Lessons are the easiest thing, yet probably the hardest
thing to put together. Whilst ideas abound, finding
the right idea and the right object to communicate it is
difficult. |

|
Here
a couple of simple steps to developing object lessons:
- What
is the overall theme/message of the entire lesson?
- What
are the (as we do it, three) points you want to get across?
- What
can best communicate each single point?
A
browse through the various lessons available through the CURRICULUM
page will demonstrate how objects are matched to ideas to themes.
